HM Bark Endeavour "aircraft file"

All new GMAX models for FS2002. Includes a model of Endeavour under sail and with furled sails. Animated Rudder, tiller and wheel. Also animated mooring lines and anchor. This is intended as "moving scenery". The idea behind that is you can position it where ever you want and take in the view. You can also look through the rigging this way. If you want to fly over it instead, either enlist a friend for a multiplayer session, or use the scenery version.

INSTALLATION

1/ unzip all files to a temporary folder.
2/ double click on HMBark.exe to start the auto-installation.
3/The vessels will be added to the "aircraft folder" (C:\Program files\Microsoft GAmes\FS2002\aircraft) and the flights to "my flights"

"FLYING" THE VESSEL

2 flights are included. One puts you off Sydney at sea, the other in Sydney Harbour. To change to the furled sail model once the flight has been selected, hit the "alt" key, choose the aircraft tab, then select aircraft, and choose the appropriate model.

ANIMATIONS
The rudder, tiller and wheel animate in both models. The anchor can only be dropped in the furled sail model. To drop anchor, use the open cargo door keystroke combination. Usually this is shift +E then hit "2" very quickly. The anchor will drop, but it will have no effect on your movement! To activate the mooring lines, in the furled sail model, hit door open (usually shift + E). You will still be able to move to position the ship.

'FLYING CHARACTORISTICS"
It sails very fast!! It can reach 30knots. I have made it like this so if you want to position it somewhere, it wont take all day. It does take some time for the ship to get moving, and stop (there is a lot of inertia to get over). You can use the pushback commands to go backwards. Also for some reason it often rotates alot when starting to gain speed. I am not sure if this is to do with the "P" factor or torque settings.

POSITIONING THE VESSEL MORE ACCURATELY
You can always start up one of the saved flights, then hit the alt key, select world from the menu, then map view. In the lat / long boxes, type in where you want to go. Be careful to only delete and insert one charactor at a time. If you just inserted a figure in the lat for instance and it momentarily reads S335* for instance, you get an error message that haunts you for ever (it seems). To avoid this, delete one charactor only, then insert one charactor in its spot. Slow and annoying I know, but better than the error message for ever.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Cook set sail on 26th August 1768 from Plymouth on his second voyage. The Endeavour started its life as the "Earl of Pembroke" a Whitby Collier. She was bought by the Royal Navy in 1768 and refitted for Cook's voyage. This voyage took him to Tahitii, and New Zealand, before heading west to the east coast of Australia. They reached the coast at Point Hicks in Victoria on 18th April 1770. He went ashore on the 29th April 1770 at Kurnell in Botany Bay (Sydney). He followed the coast of Australia to the north for four months before heading to Batavia, and back home after 3 years at sea.
His last voyage in the "Resolution" was to Hawaii and resulted in his death as previously noted.
The Endeavour went on to make some supply trips to the Faulkland Islands. In 1790 she went to France and was refitted, before going to the USA. In 1793 she was damaged leaving Newport Rhode Island, and was left to rot there.

HM BARK ENDEAVOUR REPLICA
The keel of the replica was laid down in Fremantle Western Australia in October 1988 and launched in December 1993. The vessel has made a number of world voyages, and is currently in the United Kingdom (based in Whitby harbour). For more information about the Endeavour replica please visit www.barkendeavour.com.au It is possible to join the ship as a crew member and experience life as an 18th century sailor. I have done this myself and can thoroughly recommend it (see pictures).

KNOWN ISSUES

I have made this scene from my own photos and what diagrams I could find. Please don't email me telling me I have drawn the clew / bunt lines wrong, ommited the stunsail yards and the braces etc. I make no claim that it is 100% accurate and I know that some things have probably been left out or are in the wrong place. The textures look a bit jaggy in the virtual cockpit, but bear in mind it was initially intended only as scenery and to be viewed from a distance. I have made it flyable, so people can see it in their home port if they wanted.
